I'm Listening

A Red Jumpsuit App

What better way to test out your new lenses than to shoot a rock and roll show! I’m now coupling the 17-55mm 2.8 and the 70-200mm 2.8 lenses  (which fit together better than Ashton and Demi)

I was lucky enough to get on the floor of the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus recently and posted a few shots here: http://www.mikenyff.com/photo/people/on-stage/

redjump_041809_5467_cropHad a great chat with my brother today about plethora of legalities in the freelancing world that can either save or bury you alive. Its all pretty new to me and it is getting me to think about things in a different light. We also discussed website aesthetics and functioning (pertaining to a particular site/blog with my name in the header) and the new G.I. Joe film coming out this summer (which goes without saying…but samurais? …sick!). I really value his opinions because he has worked with many freelance photogs, designers, and production houses that are living, breathing, and working in the industry. A great resource and a great brother too :)

These images get me amped to shoot some live music this summer and align the business and marketing side of freelancing along with the creative side that keeps us all going. For those freelancers out there about to rock, I salute you!

TWiP/TWiM

twimSometimes I just want to get in my car and drive somewhere so I can get a chance to listen to my favorite podcasts. It combines two of my favorite things; traveling and podcasts! If you are into media and/or photography I would definitely recommend these two gems – This Week in Media and This Week in Photography. twipPIXELCORPS’s Alex Lindsay and professional photog Steve Simon are among many of TWiPs photographers who discuss camera technique, technology, and news. From taking photos of the family to understanding how cameras work to testing state-of-the-art equipment. I like to listen with a pad of paper and pen to write down websites, and techniques. TWiP is essencially a bunch of media professionals sitting around a table drinking coffee and having a conversation about photography. I view this as one of the most valuable resources a new photographer getting into the business – professional insight. I especially enjoy the picks of the week. (…not to be confused with picts of the week…whaaa whaaa)

TWiM is pretty similar in the structure and layout of the presentation but has a much broader scope. Each week Alex Lindsay and other experts in content creation and the media get together to discuss the week’s developments. These broad topics that are continually changing media world and TWiM keeps you on top of the heap!

Go to PixelCorps.tv to download all the podcasts as well as many others on different media subjects.

Justice.

Straight outa France, Justice is pretty much dominating my playlisst at the current moment. Their style has been thought of as having some heavy metal influence and combines cut-up slap bass style with a compressed and distorted synth sound. (Could you ask for more?) Naturally as with most creative music, they inspire creative images! The “DVNO” video kills it with all great animation with the old school logos flying in and out and “We Are Your Friends” is something none of you can say you at least haven’t thought of doing to your friends after a night of too much fun!
