I ♡ ILovePhotoBlogs.com!
This weekend it was announced that I was one of the winners of the photoblog contest on ILovePhotoBlogs.com. The February giveaway sponsored by Uprinting.com gave away a 18×24 Rolled Canvas Print of your choice, and two 250 postcard printing vouchers – I was the lucky one to get the canvas print!
ILovePhotoBlogs.com started as a project to capture as many photographers as possible in one location and has evolved into a feed where hundreds of photographers around the world find interesting thought provoking work. I found the ILovePhotoBlogs’ contest on twitter and always try to get in one contest or another once a week. Looks like it finally paid off today
So….which photo do YOU think I should print off? Leave a comment and let me know!

Not only am I launching this site/blog, showing my first prints on display, but I am also having TWO photo assignments published in two separate magazines! Wow what a crazy month!
Click on the covers to learn more about the publications. And find my photos in my ‘Assignments’ portfolio page under Group Magazine and Nebraska Life Magazine respectively. Thanks!

TWiP/TWiM
Sometimes I just want to get in my car and drive somewhere so I can get a chance to listen to my favorite podcasts. It combines two of my favorite things; traveling and podcasts! If you are into media and/or photography I would definitely recommend these two gems – This Week in Media and This Week in Photography.
PIXELCORPS’s Alex Lindsay and professional photog Steve Simon are among many of TWiPs photographers who discuss camera technique, technology, and news. From taking photos of the family to understanding how cameras work to testing state-of-the-art equipment. I like to listen with a pad of paper and pen to write down websites, and techniques. TWiP is essencially a bunch of media professionals sitting around a table drinking coffee and having a conversation about photography. I view this as one of the most valuable resources a new photographer getting into the business – professional insight. I especially enjoy the picks of the week. (…not to be confused with picts of the week…whaaa whaaa)
TWiM is pretty similar in the structure and layout of the presentation but has a much broader scope. Each week Alex Lindsay and other experts in content creation and the media get together to discuss the week’s developments. These broad topics that are continually changing media world and TWiM keeps you on top of the heap!
Go to PixelCorps.tv to download all the podcasts as well as many others on different media subjects.
Congo, Africa!

I’m excited to announce that I will be joining GlobalFingerprints and the EFCA for a two week trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo this July to help promote their Touchglobal Organization. GlobalFingerprints is the EFCA’s (EFree Churches of America) child sponsorship program for orphans of HIV/AIDS and other tragic circumstances. This trip is what is called a ‘vision trip’ and is basically a recon mission into the many different needs the area has and what the EFCA can put thier resources into use (not only working with orphans, but widows, building adequate housing and schools, and fresh water drilling.)
All the info I know at the moment is that the trip is tentavely scheduled for the 27th of July – the 7th of August. We will be in the northern territory of Congo near the Congo River. Make sure to check back in the upcoming weeks as I’ll post more info as I get it!
In the meantime, check out this video from GlobalFingerprints….
Kearney Media Group
Kearney Media Group aims to be a local network of photographers, video producers, web designers, graphic designers, writers and anyone looking for a creative community here in good ole’ central Nebraska. It’s really for anyone who wants to do something creative in Kearney but doesn’t feel like there is anyone to help out there or any resources to bring your vision into reality.
This group will hopefully be a space where people can look to each other for jobs, projects, or creative/technical input. If your a student you may need input on a project or help with some gear…a professional may need an assistant for a specific job but cant pay so a student or hobbiest may work out best. I know from experience that UNK and other schools around the area dont really give you real word experiences in those fields (i.e. working for MONEY and real clients…) So this could be a good opportunity….
Feel free to invite any of your friends who you ‘d think would be a benefit to the group. Lets try to keep this to media people so we can keep things better focused on our needs as a group.
Here we will post meet ups to see who in the area has similar aspirations of doing something creative. Meet and greet, hang out, discuss possible future creative projects, see who’s has the gear you want, and network for future work/fun!
TED Talks
TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is an annual conference that defines its mission as “ideas worth spreading”. The lectures, also called TED Talks, cover a broad set of topics including science, arts and design, politics, culture, business, global issues, technology and development, and entertainment. Speakers have included such people as former U.S. President Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, and Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page.
The annual conference now brings together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes!) The TED staff is headquartered in New York City and Vancouver. The conference has been held in Monterey, California, since its founding, but as of 2009 is being held in Long Beach, California due to an increased number of attendees. The TED conference also has a companion conference, TED Global, held in varying locations.
TEDTalks began as a simple attempt to share what happens at the TED conference with the world. Once the talks were released online they rapidly attracted a global audience in the millions. The reaction was so enthusiastic that the entire TED website has been reengineered around TEDTalks, with the goal of giving everyone on-demand access to the world’s most inspiring voices.
Today, TED is therefore best thought of as a global community. It’s a community welcoming people from every discipline and culture who have just two things in common: they seek a deeper understanding of the world, and they hope to turn that understanding into a better future for us all.
TED’s website makes the best talks and performances from TED available to the public, for free. Approximately 370 TED talks are provided for free viewing and download online (best viewed in HD on iTunes for free!). As of January 2009, talks were viewed over 90 million times!
TED Prize
The TED Prize was introduced in 2005. Each year, three individuals are each given $100,000 and granted a “wish to change the world”, which they unveil at TED.
